The Cuckoo’s Egg By Clifford Stoll

True Story!

A Book About US Computer Security, Espionage and the KGB

This book is a MUST READ for anyone who are either:

  • Fans of true stories and non-fiction thrillers
  • Fans of suspense thrillers in general
  • Love a good book about Espionage, Spies and the KGB vs US
  • Cold War Spy Anti Spy History Buffs
  • Computer Security Experts
  • Hackers and White Hat Professionals
  • All of the above, or even none of the above!

Truly this story is a shocking account of how vulnerable US computer systems once were. It covers the basic things that for years still remained vulnerable.

Setting of The Cuckoo’s Egg

The setting was when the US and Russia were head-to-head, and when the Russian KGB was trying to steal secrets and break into US computers. It reads like a Tom Clancy spy novel, except that it was for real, making it even more fascinating.

The account is actually exciting and suspenseful and was difficult to put down at times. It’s an account about things that happened during the early 1980′s at the height of the cold war.

The most intriguing part of the book, in my opinion, is just HOW the whole KGB effort was discovered, pretty much accidentally and due to something that would usually go unnoticed to a non-inquisitive mind.

A great read, highly recommended. Get it here right now – The Cuckoo’s Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage
