Networks and Netwars – The Future of Terror Crime and Militancy
The power of a network is undisputed these days. While we enjoy all of the positives of a networked world, this book shows how and why networks can have a very significant negative effect on society.
What was particularly striking was the concept of swarming, which came apparent some years ago with distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
Through swarming, denial of service occurs through overwhelming a resource or several resources with overwhelming numbers and focused attacks.
Why You Should Read This Book
To understand the current and future threats and how they will probably try to operate in a network-driven world in order to disrupt it. I go back to the concept of the overwhelming swarm, like a bunch of bees or ants, or perhaps piranhas. Though insignificant in themselves, their strength is in both numbers and the buzzing frenzy they create.
I will admit there are parts of the book that seem a bit abstract and that seem to drag on, but overall it’s a good book to understand the challenges that lie ahead in our networked world. It’s all in Networks and Netwars – The Future of Terror Crime and Militancy
